Story

Fare's Fair is a project of Travellers Aid Autralia to raise funds to help disadvantaged Victorian students and school children travel to and from school.

Travellers Aid is a registered charity which aims to make everyday travel possible for all people. Services at Southern Cross Station and Flinders Street Station provide emergency relief for travellers in distress, guidance services, buggy services, personal care for people with disabilities, mobility equipment hire, internet services and more. Travellers Aid was established in 1916, originally to help single women arriving in Melbourne by boat.

Donations to Fare's Fair will be used to fund student travel passes for disadvantaged Victorian students.

Travellers Aid Australia

Travellers Aid Australia helps travellers in need. Some may be facing travel emergencies - fleeing violence, trying to get to a hospital or stranded without funds.

Others may have special needs, like a disability. Still others may be unfamiliar with Melbourne and need help with simple directions, or to be accompanied to a medical appointment by a volunteer.

Travellers Aid provides a guide and buggy service for people who have mobility or vision impairment. There are showers and sleep rooms for people who may urgently need to rest (for example if they are pregnant or unwell).

Services include:

  • travel-related emergency relief
  • personal care for people with a disability
  • free buggy service at Southern Cross Station
  • volunteer Medical Companions to accompany people to and from medical appointments by public transport
  • mobility equipment hire
  • internet access
  • tourist facilities.

Travellers Aid was founded in 1916 and has services in Southern Cross and Flinders Street Stations.
